How we got started

Seattle Lawn Care Pros started in 2012 with a single mower, a used pickup truck, and a route of about a dozen lawns around Ballard and Fremont. The founder had spent years working for a national lawn care franchise and kept running into the same problem: every treatment plan, every mowing schedule, and every seed recommendation came from a corporate playbook written for a completely different climate. Customers in Seattle kept ending up with scorched fertilizer burns from products meant for sandy Southern soil, or seed blends that couldn't survive under a single mature cedar tree.

So the idea behind this company was simple: build a lawn care service from scratch around Western Washington conditions specifically, rather than importing a system built somewhere else and hoping it translates. That meant testing which fescue and ryegrass blends actually held color through our wet winters, learning how deep to core-aerate through our specific clay hardpan, and figuring out the exact week each fall when moss treatment needed to go down before the rains set in for good.

Fourteen years later, that same philosophy runs every crew we operate. We've grown to service more than 2,300 properties across Seattle and the Westside, but we've stayed intentionally regional. You won't find us expanding into Portland or Spokane chasing growth for its own sake. We'd rather know Seattle's microclimates, from the drier rain shadow near Magnolia to the deep shade of the Arboretum-adjacent neighborhoods, better than anyone else operating here.

What we believe about lawn care

We think most lawn problems in this region come down to three things: compacted clay soil that suffocates roots, moss that fills in wherever grass is thinning from shade or moisture, and mowing or fertilizing schedules that ignore how differently grass grows here compared to almost anywhere else in the country. Our whole service lineup, from aeration to fertilization to seasonal cleanup, exists to address those three root causes directly rather than mask symptoms with a quick spray.

We also believe a lawn care company should be honest about what a property actually needs. If your yard doesn't need a full fertilization program this season, we'll say so. If aeration would help more than another round of weed control, that's what we'll recommend. Long-term customer relationships have kept this company running for over a decade, and those relationships depend on trust, not on upselling every visit.
